Student Spotlight - Monica Heredia

Monica Y. Heredia is an active member of the community, serving as president of the Student Leadership Team (SLT) this year after being secretary last year. “I am a strong believer that the students who enroll at FPBS are making a conscious decision to answer the call our Lord Jesus Christ has placed upon our hearts. We realize the future is today, and we are dedicated to developing our purpose as co-workers within the Kingdom of God,” she said.

Monica has a servant-leader’s heart and is regularly mindful of the work that God is already doing in her midst. She continually seeks opportunities to join God in his work. She serves as a team member in ministry at Crosspoint Church’s Women’s Ministry, Flourishing Women for God and as a volunteer facilitator with COSA (Circles of Support and Accountability).

She was excited to participate in the Hispanic Summer Program in San Antonio, Texas, this past summer. “It served as an opportunity for growth as I sought to broaden my perspectives theologically and academically. My ultimate goal was to leave with an understanding of how to embrace the challenges of my local community, while extending the healing love found within the Gospel message of Christ Jesus,” she said.

Monica was awarded the Henry H. Schmidt Multicultural Leadership Scholarship and expects to graduate in May. She is placed at Fresno County Department of Behavioral Health, Pathways to Recovery. As she begins her final year of study at FPBS, she most looks forward to “walking with and encouraging my fellow students to explore the possibilities for transformation that our seminary experience has to offer, both individually and collectively.”
